Denmark Invoice Template (Faktura)

A free, editable faktura layout for VAT-registered businesses in Denmark. It follows the list in § 58 of the Danish VAT order (momsbekendtgørelsen): invoice date, a sequential number, your VAT registration number, both parties' names and addresses, what was supplied, the delivery date if it differs, unit prices without VAT, the rate and the VAT amount. The download uses a VAT-per-line table, so each line shows its rate and net amount and the totals show VAT by rate. Moms is 25% at the standard rate. Two Danish rules sit outside the invoice itself: invoices to public authorities must be sent electronically and reference the authority's EAN location number, and the Bookkeeping Act requires many businesses to keep their books in a digital bookkeeping system. This template does neither. It downloads as an HTML file you can edit in a browser and print or save as PDF, which works for ordinary business and consumer customers but not as an e-invoice to the public sector.

Recommended Payment Terms

The VAT order does not set payment terms; agree them in your contract and state the due date and bank details on the invoice, for example "Betaling senest 30 dage efter fakturadato" (payment within 30 days of the invoice date). For public-sector customers, the authority tells you its accepted credit time when it orders. Under the order on electronic billing with public authorities, it may postpone payment of an invoice that lacks the EAN number or reference or is not sent electronically, so get those right first.

Tax Information

The standard rate of Danish VAT (moms) is 25%, and the EU's Your Europe table lists a 0% rate for certain supplies. An invoice must show the applicable rate and the VAT amount to be paid. For sales of up to DKK 3,000, § 66 of the VAT order allows a simplified invoice that can state the VAT as 20% of the total including VAT, which is the same thing as 25% on the net price. If the buyer accounts for the VAT under reverse charge, the invoice shows no rate or VAT amount and states that the buyer settles the VAT. InvoiceQuickly applies one tax percentage per invoice, copies saved tax IDs to new invoice PDFs, does not offer Danish kroner in its editor and cannot send OIOUBL or Peppol e-invoices. This is general information, not legal or tax advice; confirm your obligations with Skattestyrelsen or an adviser.

Industry context (2026)

Danish invoice content is set by § 58 of the VAT order (BEK nr. 1435 of 29 November 2023, shown as in force on Retsinformation). Electronic invoicing to public authorities is governed by BEK nr. 206 of 11 March 2011, as amended from 1 January 2024; the European Commission's Denmark country page states there is no B2B e-invoicing mandate. The Bookkeeping Act (lov nr. 700 of 24 May 2022) phased in digital bookkeeping: for companies that file annual reports from financial years starting 1 July 2024 with a registered standard system or 1 January 2025 with another system (BEK nr. 1342/2023), and for other businesses with turnover above DKK 300,000 in two consecutive income years from their first financial year after 1 January 2026 (BEK nr. 297/2025). NemHandel, the public e-invoicing infrastructure linked to Erhvervsstyrelsen, describes a project to move to one common e-invoice on Peppol. Rates from the European Commission's Your Europe VAT table (last checked 13 July 2026). Accessed 27 October 2026.

Worked example

Illustrative example: a VAT-registered web developer in Aarhus builds a booking site for a Copenhagen dental clinic chain, finishing on 28 October 2026 and invoicing on 3 November 2026. The invoice carries the next number in the series, both names and addresses, the developer's VAT registration number, the delivery date of 28 October, one line of 80 hours at DKK 500 per hour without VAT (DKK 40,000), the 25% rate, VAT of DKK 10,000 and a total of DKK 50,000. If the same work were for a municipality, the developer would send it as an electronic invoice that references the municipality's EAN location number and the reference person given with the order. A DKK 2,500 sale including VAT to a walk-in customer could instead go on a simplified invoice stating that VAT is 20% of the total, which is DKK 500.

Common mistakes to avoid

Sending a PDF to a public authority

Public authorities must receive invoices electronically in a format they can read into their systems, with their EAN location number. A PDF by email can be held back from payment.

Leaving out the delivery date

If the goods or services were delivered on a different day from the invoice date, § 58 requires that date on the invoice.

Charging VAT on a reverse-charge supply

When the buyer accounts for the VAT, the invoice shows no rate or VAT amount and must state that the buyer settles the VAT.

Mixing exempt and taxable lines in one total

Exempt supplies on the same invoice must be listed separately with their own subtotal.

Invoicing Tips

  • 1Number invoices in one or more unbroken series. § 58 requires a sequential number that identifies the invoice.
  • 2Show the delivery date when it differs from the invoice date, for example work finished on 28 October and invoiced on 3 November.
  • 3Selling to a municipality, region or state body? Send an electronic invoice that references the authority's EAN location number and its reference person or order number, and name only one CVR number as creditor.
  • 4For a small cash sale of up to DKK 3,000, a simplified invoice can state that VAT is 20% of the total instead of listing net prices.
  • 5Store each issued invoice in your bookkeeping. If the Bookkeeping Act's digital requirement covers your business, that means a digital bookkeeping system, not a folder of PDFs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What must a Danish invoice contain?

Under § 58 of the VAT order: the invoice date, a sequential number, the seller's VAT registration number, the seller's and buyer's names and addresses, the quantity and nature of the goods or services, the delivery date if it differs from the invoice date, the taxable amount and unit price without VAT with any discounts, the VAT rate and the VAT amount to be paid.

What is the VAT rate on Danish invoices?

The standard moms rate is 25%. On a DKK 40,000 invoice that is DKK 10,000 of VAT and DKK 50,000 in total. Exempt or reverse-charge supplies are shown differently, so check the treatment before you invoice.

Do I have to send e-invoices in Denmark?

To public authorities, yes. Under the order on electronic billing with public authorities, invoices to them must be received electronically in a format their systems can read, and must reference the authority's EAN location number. For business customers, the European Commission's eInvoicing country page for Denmark (updated 19 October 2026) states there is no B2B e-invoicing mandate, although your bookkeeping may have to be digital under the Bookkeeping Act.

Does the digital bookkeeping requirement mean I need e-invoicing?

The Bookkeeping Act requires covered businesses to keep their books in a digital system. Registered standard bookkeeping systems must be able to send and receive e-invoices automatically and support registration in the NemHandel register. Companies that file annual reports were phased in from 2024 and 2025, and other businesses with net turnover above DKK 300,000 in two consecutive income years from their first financial year after 1 January 2026. That obligation applies to your bookkeeping system, not to the layout of each invoice.

Can InvoiceQuickly create Danish invoices?

Partly. You can draft an English-language PDF invoice with one 25% tax rate, sequential numbers and line items, and save your VAT number as the business tax ID before creating the invoice so it appears on the new PDF. The editor does not offer Danish kroner, and InvoiceQuickly cannot send OIOUBL or Peppol e-invoices to public authorities or act as a digital bookkeeping system.
