Bangladesh Invoice Template: Mushak-6.3 Field Reference
A VAT-registered person in Bangladesh must issue a VAT invoice in Form VAT-6.3, widely called Mushak-6.3, against each supply (rule 40 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Rules, 2016). It must show the actual date and time of issue, the supplier's name, address and Business Identification Number (BIN), the purchaser's name, address and BIN where the supply exceeds Tk 25,000, the description, quantity and date and time of supply, transport details for goods, the value excluding VAT, the VAT rate, the VAT amount and the total, with a serial number that restarts each fiscal year. Rule 40(2) lets you use your own layout if it carries the form name, includes every item of the prescribed form and is issued in at least the required number of copies. This editable HTML file gives you those fields to fill in. It is not a filed or certified form, and you remain responsible for its content. Enlisted turnover-tax payers use Form VAT-6.9 instead. InvoiceQuickly's PDF invoices copy a saved business tax ID into new invoice PDFs but do not show a time of issue or a VAT-6.3 form name, so they are not a substitute for a Mushak-6.3.

Recommended Payment Terms
Agree the payment date with your customer and show it on the invoice in Taka with your bank details. If the customer is a VAT withholding entity, it may deduct VAT at source when it pays. A registered withholding entity must then give you a certificate of VAT deduction at source in Form VAT-6.6 within 3 working days of filing its return, so reconcile the amount received against your VAT-6.3 and the certificate.

Tax Information
The standard VAT rate in Bangladesh is 15% (section 15 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012), and exports are zero-rated (NBR VAT FAQ). Some supplies are exempt or taxed differently under the Act's schedules and NBR orders, so check the rate for your supply. Show the value excluding VAT, the VAT rate, the VAT amount and the total on each VAT-6.3. Your customer can only claim input credit with a valid VAT-6.3, and a defective or incomplete one is not accepted as evidence (rule 40(3)). Invoices of more than Tk 2 lakh must also be reported in Form VAT-6.10 through the VAT online system (rule 42). InvoiceQuickly applies one tax percentage per invoice with a generic "Tax" label, copies saved tax IDs to new invoice PDFs and does not offer BDT in its currency menu.
Industry context (2026)
The Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012 replaced the 1991 VAT law from 1 July 2017 (NBR VAT FAQ). The NBR published an authentic English text of the VAT and Supplementary Duty Rules, 2016 in the Bangladesh Gazette on 10 November 2025, incorporating amendments up to SRO 158 of 27 May 2025. That amendment, effective 1 July 2025, requires registered persons to keep their purchase and sales books (Forms VAT-6.1, VAT-6.2 and VAT-6.2.1) in an ERP software system.
Worked example
Padma Office Supplies Ltd., a VAT-registered furniture supplier in Dhaka, delivers and installs desks for a garment exporter in Gazipur on 14 October 2026 (an illustrative example, assuming both supplies are taxed at the 15% standard rate). Lines: 10 office desks at Tk 18,000 = Tk 180,000; delivery and installation Tk 20,000. Value excluding VAT Tk 200,000, VAT at 15% Tk 30,000, total Tk 230,000. Because the supply exceeds Tk 25,000, the VAT-6.3 shows the buyer's BIN as well as Padma's. It also shows the time of issue (for example 10:30), the date and time of supply, the delivery van's type and registration number, and the next number in Padma's fiscal-year series. The original travels with the van and Padma keeps the copy. As the invoice exceeds Tk 2 lakh, both businesses also report it in Form VAT-6.10.
Common mistakes to avoid
Leaving out the BIN or the time of issue
Both are required items on a VAT-6.3. Without them the invoice is incomplete and the buyer cannot use it for input credit.
Own format without the form name
A custom layout must still say VAT-6.3 and carry every item of the prescribed form.
Skipping the purchaser's BIN on larger supplies
For supplies of more than Tk 25,000, show the purchaser's BIN where applicable.
Using VAT-6.3 as a turnover-tax payer
Enlisted turnover-tax payers issue Form VAT-6.9, not a VAT-6.3.
Forgetting VAT-6.10 reporting
Invoices of more than Tk 2 lakh, issued or received, must be reported in Form VAT-6.10.
Invoicing Tips
- 1If you use your own layout, print "VAT-6.3" as the form name and keep every item of the prescribed form, or the invoice is not valid for input credit.
- 2Issue at least two copies. For goods, the original goes to the purchaser and travels with the vehicle; you keep the copy.
- 3Number invoices serially for each fiscal year, with a separate series for each place of supply if you supply from more than one.
- 4Ask for the purchaser's BIN before you invoice a supply of more than Tk 25,000.
- 5Use Form VAT-6.7 for a credit note and Form VAT-6.8 for a debit note, not a negative invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Mushak-6.3 invoice?
It is the tax invoice a VAT-registered person in Bangladesh issues against each supply. The NBR's English rules call it Form VAT-6.3; mushak is the Bangla abbreviation for VAT. The NBR's VAT FAQ names the VAT-6.3 tax invoice as the document needed to claim input tax credit.
What must a VAT-6.3 invoice include?
The date and time of issue, the supplier's name, address and BIN, the purchaser's name, address and BIN where the supply exceeds Tk 25,000, a description of the goods or services with quantity and date and time of supply, the vehicle type and number for goods in transit, the value excluding VAT, the VAT rate, the VAT amount, the total and a fiscal-year serial number.
Can I issue a Mushak-6.3 in my own format?
Yes. Rule 40(2) allows your own format if it shows the form name, includes all the information in the prescribed form and is issued in the minimum number of copies. You may add extra business information.
What is the VAT rate in Bangladesh?
The standard rate is 15%, and exports are zero-rated. Some goods and services are exempt or taxed at other rates under the VAT Act's schedules, so confirm the rate for your supply with the NBR or your adviser.
Can InvoiceQuickly create a Mushak-6.3?
No. InvoiceQuickly creates English PDF invoices with one tax rate. It copies a saved business tax ID into new invoice PDFs but does not show the time of issue or the VAT-6.3 form name, and it does not file anything with the NBR. Use this layout or accounting software that produces VAT-6.3 invoices.
